Carmen Wall & John Wilson · TQ Safaris 101

Because we’ve been there.

Carmen Wall and John Wilson have both hunted at TQ Safaris 101. Carmen took her sable and gemsbok here, and John took his blue wildebeest. Carmen and John can discuss this destination with you from firsthand experience, answer your questions and help you prepare for your safari.

Where you’ll go

One country. Different hunting landscapes.

The destination is based around Lephalale, formerly Ellisras, in Limpopo. Hunts can also use other South African areas to match your species list. Your camp and itinerary are arranged around your dates and hunting goals.

Limpopo

Acacia bushveld and sandy terrain create a more intimate hunting setting, with privately owned concessions and varied plains game.

Free State

More open country brings a different experience and opportunities for species suited to these landscapes.

North West

A further option for combining different terrain and species within a custom safari.

Relax after the hunt

A comfortable base in the bush.

The Limpopo base camps are near Lephalale, roughly 3½–4 hours by road from Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo airport. The camp selected for your stay depends on the season and the animals you want to hunt.

Your room

En-suite rooms offer comfortable beds, fresh linen, hot showers and daily housekeeping. Laundry service helps you pack light.

Between hunts

Return to a lounge, bar and welcoming fire. At the main camp, a nearby waterhole offers opportunities to watch and photograph visiting wildlife.

At the table

Chef-prepared meals include opportunities to enjoy African game dishes. Breakfast and meals around the hunting schedule keep the day relaxed.

Free State accommodation offers single and double rooms, with a day spa on the same property. Tell John about room preferences or accessibility needs when planning your trip.

Time in the field

A safari shaped around you.

Hunting options

Rifle, bow and crossbow hunting are available. Depending on the hunt, methods include walking and stalking, blinds and vehicle-assisted access. Discuss your experience, preferred pace and physical needs with John.

April through October is the main hunting period described for these areas; bowhunting is especially suited to June through October.

A typical day

Start early with a light breakfast, then head out with a professional hunter and tracker. Lunch may be in camp or in the field, depending on the day’s location. Afternoon hunting continues toward dusk, followed by dinner and time to share the day’s stories.

Additional plains game and specialty hunts can be arranged around your wish list. Availability and any required permits are handled as part of your individual itinerary.

Build on your safari
